Gondola Group is the market leader in the UK casual dining sector, serving 73 million meals a year across 700 restaurants (and more than 4 million portions of doughballs).

Gondola’s restaurants are positioned to deliver a memorable dining experience and great value for money. The Group’s household name brands (PizzaExpress, ASK, Zizzi, Kettner’s and Milano) have broad appeal and are designed to cater for a range of occasions. Its estate of restaurants trade successfully in a variety of location types, from high street and local neighbourhoods to shopping centres and leisure parks.

The challenge

Operating a number of brands with distinct identities brings with it online challenges. The responsibility for delivering Gondola’s sites and services was spread across numerous digital design agencies, supporting each brand individually with varying levels of hosting capability. This created issues for Gondola’s internal IT support teams, often leading to confusion when dealing with diverse service specifications, support agreements, contract terms, pricing and platform infrastructure.

The solution

Adapt’s technical teams worked with Gondola to design a dedicated, consolidated managed hosting platform that would deliver the Group’s diverse online portfolio more efficiently under one straightforward service agreement, with the scale to meet future requirements. The solution runs Linux and Windows on managed cloud infrastructure, protected by Cisco firewalls and supported by Adapt’s highly skilled service management and technical team.

From an application management and support perspective, working with Adapt has ensured that Gondola has not experienced one minute of unplanned downtime since the service was launched in 2008.

Gondola’s customers naturally have high expectations of the Group’s brand sites and their continued availability and responsiveness is essential to delivering great visitor experiences - whether reviewing menus, checking location details and opening times, making bookings, searching for current promotions or simply getting a feel for a restaurant’s atmosphere.
